Batik is a testament to Indonesia's rich cultural diversity, recognized by UNESCO since 2009. Despite its growing global popularity, batik artisans and entrepreneurs face many challenges in preserving this art form. In light of this, during the National Batik Day celebration and as part of the OREO BATIK campaign launch, OREO, a leading brand from Mondelez Indonesia, initiated a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program called OREO Berbagi. This program directly impacts over 1,400 batik artisans and entrepreneurs in Cirebon, where one of the batik patterns is featured on OREO BATIK packaging.
Khrisma Fitriasari, Head of Corporate Communications and Government Affairs at Mondelez Indonesia, stated that OREO Berbagi reflects the company's ongoing commitment to contribute to the community.
"As a prominent product from Indonesia, made by Indonesians for both local and global enjoyment, we feel compelled to actively support the progress of batik artisans and entrepreneurs. They play a crucial role in preserving batik, ensuring that this cultural heritage remains vibrant and that the industry continues to grow. The OREO Berbagi CSR initiative is also part of our effort to celebrate the beauty and diversity of Indonesian culture, which we showcased through the OREO with batik design," explained Khrisma.
Alexandra Arri Cahyani, S.H., MPP., Director of Various Industries and Crafts at the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, welcomed this initiative, emphasizing that the preservation of batik is closely linked to the development of the batik industry, which supports the nation's economy.
The batik industry is a key area for development due to its significant role in job creation, mainly through small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This has led to a stronger and more advanced industry. Therefore, we greatly appreciate the launch of CSR OREO Berbagi and hope this initiative will boost the batik industry, enhancing the livelihoods of artisans while ensuring the sustainability of batik, said Alexandra.
At the same event, Dian Ramadianti, Senior Marketing Manager of Biscuits Mondelez Indonesia, explained that the OREO Berbagi initiative is a vital part of the special edition launch of OREO Batik, featuring packaging with four traditional patterns. This celebration highlights the beauty and diversity of Indonesian culture while creating fun moments with OREO.
"We hope that the OREO Berbagi initiative will create exciting moments that inspire batik artisans and entrepreneurs, especially in Cirebon, to preserve Indonesian batik. We also aim to encourage support from various parties to assist batik artisans and entrepreneurs across Indonesia," said Dian.
This OREO Berbagi program collaborates with the Indonesian Batik Entrepreneurs and Artisans Association (APPBI). The initiative has reached the entire population of small and medium batik businesses in Cirebon under APPBI, benefiting over 1,400 batik artisans and entrepreneurs across eight villages. The donations provided in this OREO Berbagi event include batik tools for artisans and productivity-enhancing batik kits, totaling over 1 billion rupiah.
