The Ministry of Health is rolling out a free health screening program for various diseases, available to citizens at community health centers (puskesmas). Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin announced that starting in 2025, this program will be offered on every citizen's birthday.
"This screening is a birthday gift from the state to the community, conducted annually to ensure early health monitoring," Budi said in an official statement on Thursday, October 31, 2024. The Ministry has already been providing free medical check-ups at puskesmas under the National Health Insurance (JKN) since 2023, but currently, it only covers 14 diseases.
So, what diseases can you get screened for at puskesmas for free?
From 2025, the free medical check-up will include screenings for 75 diseases. This initiative is designed to improve early detection and reduce the risks of death and disability. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, the Director of Non-Communicable Disease Prevention and Control (P2PTM) at the Ministry of Health, mentioned that the birthday health screening program won't just be limited to puskesmas.
"Yes, there will be a health screening service program. It will start at puskesmas and Posyandu, and then expand to other healthcare facilities," Nadia confirmed to Kompas.com on Monday, November 4, 2024. The free health screenings will be organized into four age groups.
Screening will be available for children aged 0-4 years, focusing on identifying congenital diseases. Here are the health conditions that will be checked:

Health screenings are set to take place at local health centers and schools, based on specific age groups. The Ministry of Health is teaming up with the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration to gather information on residents who are celebrating their birthdays.
Nadia also mentioned that if residents have a birthday and want to join the free health screening in 2025, they just need to head to their closest community health center with their ID. The staff there will check their information against the population database, allowing them to take advantage of the free health screening services.
