The head of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Novyan Bakrie, has expressed his support for President Prabowo Subianto's plan to rescue PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk (Sritex). He believes that saving Sritex could be a key step in untangling the issues within the national manufacturing sector, particularly in textiles and textile products, to prevent similar problems in the future.
"This is a great opportunity to improve the governance of our industry and trade. The main goal is to protect and maintain the stability of our national economy so that economic growth truly benefits the welfare and prosperity of the Indonesian people," Anindya Bakrie stated in an official release on Sunday (November 3, 2024).
Anindya is confident that the government will make wise decisions based on existing laws rather than direct intervention. He has been actively studying and communicating with various stakeholders, including the Indonesian Textile Association (API).
"Direct intervention could create chaos in the business world and lead to moral hazards that provoke negative reactions from other industry players," he noted. For the rescue of Sritex to truly benefit the public, Anindya emphasizes three key principles.
First, the interests of the people must come first, respecting the applicable laws. Second, there needs to be a revision of regulations that hinder the textile and textile product industry in line with global dynamics, ensuring that this sector continues to positively impact the national economy. Third, all stakeholders in the textile and trade industry, including the government, entrepreneurs, and workers, should work together to revitalize the national textile and garment industry.
Anindya mentioned that finding a middle ground is essential for everyone to come together and find the best solutions. He explained that Kadin Indonesia is backing the government's efforts to prevent major companies from collapsing, as this would lead to a significant loss of jobs for many people. "We need to protect national economic interests and the well-being of the public. We also urge businesses to prioritize these concerns over just making profits," he emphasized.
Additionally, Anindya plans to take action in four key areas. First, he will provide support in various fields such as regulations, trade, finance, and any other necessary areas to help textile industry players enhance their global competitiveness and continue to grow.?
