The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), together with the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Transportation, is gearing up to form a special team focused on enhancing national tourism. This was announced by BUMN Minister Erick Thohir after talks with the other ministers.
Erick explained that this task force will promote collaboration between ministries, making sure that all tourism policies work together to provide effective solutions, especially regarding the rising costs of domestic flight tickets.
"We're going to set up a team to find solutions," Erick said in Jakarta on Thursday (October 31, 2024).
He mentioned that this joint effort aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's directives during his visit to Magelang.
"We expect the team to be up and running in the next week or two, and they'll start reviewing all policies to ensure they’re executed efficiently," he added.
The issue of soaring flight ticket prices in Indonesia has caught the attention of the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU), which has pointed out several reasons behind the high costs of air travel for the public.
KPPU member Budi Joyo Santoso noted that factors like the high price of aviation fuel, a monopolized fuel distribution system, taxes, and business practices are all contributing to the steep airline ticket prices.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has denied claims that avtur prices in Indonesia are the highest in Southeast Asia.
This statement was supported by PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, a branch of PT Pertamina (Persero), which emphasized that avtur prices are competitive and comply with local regulations.
"The avtur prices listed in Indonesia are very competitive. Pertamina's avtur prices are comparable to, and in some instances lower than, those in countries with similar geographical features," said Corporate Secretary Heppy Wulansari earlier this month.
