Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman has announced that a foreign investor is interested in launching a dairy farm in Indonesia. This news came after a private meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace on Thursday, October 31, 2024.
Amran also shared some updates on the rice field development project in Central and South Kalimantan, mentioning that he plans to visit the sites himself and will report back to the president after his overseas trip.
On top of that, he revealed that a Vietnamese investor is looking to invest in Indonesia.
"We have an investor from Vietnam who is focused on dairy cattle, and we're working to make their investment happen here," Amran told the press.
While he didn't go into specifics about the Vietnamese investor's plans, he did confirm that the government is getting land ready for the dairy farm, with three possible locations in mind: Central Sulawesi, South Kalimantan, and South Sulawesi.
"We recently checked out Poso and had discussions with TH Group, as well as in South Kalimantan," he added.
In Poso, we've got 12,000 hectares set aside for cattle, while South Sulawesi offers around 20,000 to 30,000 hectares, and Central Kalimantan could potentially provide up to 50,000 hectares, he mentioned.
In July 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture made a big win by attracting Vietnamese investment in cattle farming during a visit from the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Agriculture and a group of business folks.
On May 19, they also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to kick off agricultural collaboration.
Agung Suganda, the Director General of Livestock and Animal Health at the Ministry, shared that a Vietnamese investor plans to bring in 250,000 dairy cows to Poso Regency, which is expected to produce around 1.8 million liters of milk annually.
The Ministry of Agriculture's website notes that this investment plan involving 250,000 cows is likely to make a significant impact.
