The Presidential Palace just launched a new Instagram account for the President of Indonesia, called @presidenrepublikindonesia. This account went live about four days ago, on October 26, 2024, and it currently has one post featuring a photo of Prabowo Subianto taking the oath of office at the DPR/MPR building on October 20.
According to the account's bio, @presidenrepublikindonesia is the official channel for the Presidential Office and is run by the Presidential Communication Office.
As of Wednesday, October 30, at 3:00 PM WIB, the account has gained 655,000 followers, while the @republikindonesia account has 587,000 followers. Both accounts are verified with a blue checkmark. The profile picture for @presidenrepublikindonesia shows Prabowo, and it only has that one post of his oath-taking during the inauguration in Jakarta on October 20.
On the other hand, the @republikindonesia account features just one post of the waving red and white flag. Hasan Nasbi, who heads the Presidential Communication Office, mentioned that this account is meant for institutional purposes, not personal for Prabowo.
Hasan clarified at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on October 30 that Mr. Prabowo's Instagram isn't a personal account; it's meant for the presidential institution. He pointed out that the account was set up to secure the username and avoid any unauthorized use.
He also mentioned that there might be a stronger focus on the account for the President of Indonesia. In addition to @presidenrepublikindonesia, the Presidential Communication Office has launched @republikindonesia. Hasan highlighted the importance of having both accounts by comparing them to official presidential accounts from other countries. He cited the Instagram account @potus, which is used by the 'President of the United States' and remains active regardless of who is in office. "So, this account will continue to be used no matter who is president," Hasan added.
