Generation Z and Millennials are leading the way in cryptocurrency investment in Indonesia. According to data from the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti) and local crypto platforms, over 60% of crypto investors in Indonesia are aged between 18 and 30.
Kasan, the head of Bappebti, noted that these younger generations are increasingly interested in crypto investments, viewing digital assets as a viable financial management option. "Technological advancements, including blockchain, have sparked the interest of young people in crypto investments, which are now seen as potential investment tools," Kasan stated.
This trend is supported by data on crypto investors in Indonesia up to September 2024, showing that 26.9% are aged 18-24 and 35.1% are aged 25-30. These figures are higher than those in other age groups, highlighting the significant role of youth in Indonesia's crypto ecosystem.
This development reflects the growing accessibility of education about crypto, enabling young people to learn quickly and adopt crypto investments. Kasan also emphasized, "As the next generation, young people need to be aware of technological and financial developments. Financial literacy, including understanding crypto, is crucial for them to make informed investment choices and avoid unnecessary financial risks," Kasan explained.
According to the Indonesia Millennial and Gen Z Report (IMGR) 2024, 38% of Millennials and 41% of Gen Z in Indonesia regularly create monthly budgets. Additionally, 32% of Millennials and 26% of Gen Z set aside part of their income for savings and investments. This indicates that financial management and investment are now priorities for young people.
Wan Iqbal, CMO of Tokocrypto, noted that young people are increasingly choosing cryptocurrency investments as part of their financial strategies. Gen Z and Millennials invest in crypto four times more than older generations. "At Tokocrypto, over 60% of our investors are young. We recognize the importance of education to help them manage their investments wisely and understand the associated risks," he explained.
