The Ministry of Industry is determined to implement strategic policies to boost the performance of the national manufacturing sector. This move aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's target of achieving 7-8 percent economic growth.
"We're going full throttle. Following the President's guidance, especially for the manufacturing sector, there needs to be a direct correlation between the growth of each industry and the welfare of the people. This means investments must be well-directed and beneficial to the wider community. We'll definitely discuss the details," said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Jakarta on Tuesday (October 22).
The Minister emphasized that they will work in line with the National Industrial Development Master Plan (RIPIN) for 2025-2045, which focuses on developing 10 priority industries. "We are confident that the manufacturing sector will continue to make the largest contribution to the national economy. Therefore, we will solidify the existing roadmap over the next two to three years," he stated.
Echoing this sentiment, Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza noted that manufacturing remains crucial. "The industry is like the heart that pumps blood and provides oxygen to the entire body. So, it must be strengthened and given the necessary support to stay robust and grow," he explained.
Minister Agus added that the Ministry is committed to carrying out downstream programs. "Downstream initiatives won't just focus on a few commodities; they will encompass all commodities that can create added value, ultimately generating job opportunities," he clarified.
Looking ahead, the strategy for industrial development should aim to deepen the industrial structure from upstream to downstream, based on the abundant availability of natural resources.
As a country rich in natural resources and with a large domestic market, Indonesia has always had significant potential to become a leading industrial nation, he added.
To achieve this, collaboration between the Ministry of Industry and stakeholders is essential, covering everything from industrial and trade policy development, strengthening supply chains, workforce training, financing facilitation, to research and technology advancement.
“This way, the national manufacturing sector is expected to truly become a strong backbone of the national economy, successfully guiding Indonesia towards achieving inclusive, productive, and sustainable economic growth targets,” said the Minister of Industry.
