The Transportation Minister Has Confirmed That The Joglo Intersection Will Be Ready To Operate By November 1st

Tuesday, 15 Oct 2024

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has confirmed that the railway line at Simpang Joglo in Solo, Central Java, will be operational by November 1, 2024, at the latest, following load tests scheduled for October 23 and 24. He shared this update while inspecting the progress of the elevated railway bridge at Simpang Joglo on Sunday (October 13).

During his visit, the Minister checked the construction progress by riding a maintenance train from Kadipiro Station. He noted that the tracks are nearly ready for use, but they will conduct load tests to meet safety standards.

"We’ve already used the maintenance train, which means the route from Semarang to Solo is practically ready. However, to ensure it meets the required load capacity, we’re collaborating with the Public Works Department for the load tests on October 23 and 24. If everything goes well, we’ll be operational by November 1," the Minister stated.

Previously, trains passing through Simpang Joglo, which has seven intersections, often caused long traffic jams and posed safety risks. With the construction of the elevated railway, the Minister hopes to alleviate congestion and enhance safety in the area.

"This bridge serves two purposes: it addresses the functional aspect of traffic congestion here, where seven routes intersect. With the elevated and underpass designs, it will operate more like a four-way intersection instead of a seven-way one," he explained.

Progress on Klaten Station Beautification

After checking the elevated railway bridge in Simpang Joglo, the Minister continued his work visit to Klaten Station, which is currently undergoing beautification.

As of October 10, 2024, the beautification project at Klaten Station is 80.52% complete. The work includes improvements to the main hall, public facilities, prayer room, restrooms, ticketing hall, corridors, platforms, outdoor waiting area, office space, expedition building, parking lot, landscaping, and the area where the old house used to be.

Klaten Station is part of Indonesia's first railway line, which was inaugurated on July 9, 1871, and it’s also the first station built between Solo and Jogja. The Minister of Transportation mentioned that the beautification of Klaten Station aims to enhance passenger comfort since it serves as a key hub from Solo to Purworejo.

Additionally, the Minister noted that in the future, long-distance and local train passengers will have separate boarding areas. “We’re also planning to build a station across from the terminal, meaning the current station will cater to long-distance travel, while the one to the south will handle local trips, which could see up to 24 journeys a day,” he said.

Besides the beautification of Klaten Station, the Minister also highlighted plans to improve connectivity in Central Java, with the Adi Soemarmo Airport Train servicing the route from Madiun to Adi Soemarmo Airport.

“The train that used to run from Solo to Klaten will now operate from the airport to Madiun, as statistics show that Madiun has a larger population,” the Minister added.

Also present during the inspection were the Director General of Railways, Risal Wasal, and the Executive Vice President (EVP) of KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, Bambang Respationo.
