The Ministry of Industry believes that strengthening skilled human resources is a key strategy to revive the performance of the textile and textile products (TPT) industry. This sector is currently facing significant challenges due to global geopolitical and economic conditions, as well as an influx of imported products in the domestic market.

“To boost the performance of the TPT industry, we need to ensure the availability of raw materials, expand market access, optimize the use of domestic products, and enhance the skills of our workforce,” said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday, October 3.

To increase the number of skilled workers to meet the needs of the TPT industry, especially in Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta, and West Java, the Ministry of Industry is running vocational training through the Textile and Textile Products Community Academy in Surakarta (AK-Tekstil - Solo), which has successfully trained graduates to be competent and job-ready.

Masrokhan, the head of the Human Resource Development Agency for Industry (BPSDM), pointed out that the textile and garment industry is a key sector due to its export orientation and labor intensity. Moreover, the TPT industry is a priority for development in line with the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap.

“Even though the textile and garment industry is currently facing tough challenges, we are optimistic about rebuilding the TPT sector, particularly by providing skilled and competent human resources,” Masrokhan stated during the 9th Anniversary and Graduation Ceremony for the Diploma Two (D-II) Class VIII on September 21.

Graduates from AK-Tekstil Solo have landed jobs at 27 leading textile and textile product companies across Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta, and West Java. The institution is also creating new job opportunities by fostering young entrepreneurs through its business incubator unit called “Simpelity.”

“I want to congratulate and appreciate all the graduates who have completed their education at AK-Tekstil Solo and secured positions in textile companies. This achievement is a result of the collaboration between AK-Tekstil Solo, the Indonesian Textile Association, the textile industry, students, and their parents,” said Masrokhan.

This year, there are 176 graduates, including 46 in Yarn Production Technology, 50 in Woven Fabric Production Technology, and 80 in Garment Production Technology. With this batch, the total number of graduates from AK-Tekstil Solo has reached 1,450 since the first cohort.

During the VIII Graduation Ceremony, 55% of the graduates received honors. The top graduate in Yarn Production Technology was Alya Regina Abidin with a GPA of 3.93, in Woven Fabric Production Technology it was Andin Sekar Mahanani with a GPA of 3.98, and in Garment Production Technology, Melani Anasya Larasati topped the list with a GPA of 3.91.

The quality of AK-Tekstil Solo graduates is closely linked to its dual education system, which focuses on preparing students to meet industry demands and the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

In his report, the Director of AK-Tekstil Solo, Wawan Ardi Subakdo, emphasized the importance of adapting to technological advancements, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the textile sector. "Be not just users, but also developers of technology that benefits society at large," he stated.
