PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) has officially signed a partnership agreement with PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) for the transportation of Paraxylene and Propylene cargo. This collaboration allows PIS to expand its business portfolio and aims to meet the growing demand for Paraxylene and Propylene in both domestic and international markets.
The agreement was signed by KPI's Director of Feedstock Optimization & Products, Sani Dinar Saifuddin, and PIS's Director of Gas, Petrochemicals, & New Business, Arief Sukmara, during a signing ceremony held in Bandung on Monday (September 30).
With this strategic partnership, KPI is entrusting PIS to transport cargo from its processing facilities, such as those in Cilacap and Balongan, to storage facilities located in various places like Gresik and other sites across Indonesia.
"PIS's capabilities in maritime logistics have gained international recognition due to the quality of its fleet and high safety standards. We believe that with these capabilities, KPI and PIS can reach more consumers and effectively meet the petrochemical needs of the national industry at more affordable costs," said Sani Dinar Saifuddin.
Meanwhile, Arief Sukmara highlighted the significance of this collaboration in addressing domestic market demands for petrochemical products. "We are proud of the partnership between PIS and KPI, which symbolizes the synergy within the Pertamina Group. This collaboration also enables both parties to develop the petrochemical business by meeting local consumer demands."
Arief expressed PIS's pride in collaborating with KPI to aggressively grow the petrochemical business. "We are optimistic about this collaboration. PIS is dedicated to continuously improving our services for our strategic customers, especially KPI.
Paraxylene and Propylene are two chemical products derived from crude oil. They serve as essential raw materials in various industrial processes, which can then be transformed into a wide range of industrial products, including PET plastics, pharmaceuticals, automotive components, electronic products, and cosmetics.
The crucial role of Paraxylene and Propylene in numerous industrial products has led to a growing market demand for both, particularly in Indonesia, which is currently focused on enhancing its industrial capacity.
The cargo transport volume is around 5,000 Metric Tons for Paraxylene and 1,567.5 Metric Tons for Propylene, with shipping frequency ranging from 3 to 7 shipments each month. This cargo transport will fully optimize PIS's fleet, which is specifically configured to safely transport petrochemical cargo in accordance with applicable international standards.
"The significant role of both as industrial raw materials drives the increasing market demand. We are committed to meeting the domestic market's needs for these two petrochemical products by providing safe, high-quality shipping solutions at more affordable prices," Arief concluded.
