PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), through its subsidiary PT Semen Gresik, is actively working to boost the economy and improve the welfare of the local community around its factory operations. For instance, in Tegaldowo Village, Gunem District, Rembang Regency, Central Java, PT Semen Gresik has stepped in to enhance the village's infrastructure by building roads. As of July 2024, they have completed 1.51 km of road construction in Tegaldowo. This road project is part of PT Semen Gresik's CSR initiatives. Since 2021, the company has invested Rp5.37 billion in building 4.1 km of roads across six villages in Rembang and Blora, including Tegaldowo, Kajar, Timbrangan, Pasucen, Kadiwono, and Ngampel. Beyond roads, PT Semen Gresik has also contributed to other village infrastructure projects like bridges, drainage systems, village halls, and river retaining walls. Kundari, the head of Tegaldowo Village, expressed gratitude to the company, noting that the road improvements have significantly aided the community's daily activities and positively impacted the village's economy. Before this road construction, the unstable soil conditions made it tough for farmers and local businesses to sell their products. Kundari added, "The concrete road support from PT Semen Gresik has really helped our village's economy. We employed local workers for the project to empower each other and boost residents' livelihoods. Now that we have this concrete road, it's much easier for people to get around, which is great for our economic growth."
Salamun, the head of Pasucen village in Gunem, Rembang, expressed his appreciation as well. He pointed out that the main road in Pasucen struggles with drainage, which poses a flood risk during heavy rains. He admitted that the village hasn't been able to build drainage systems due to budget constraints. "We're prioritizing drainage work with support from PT Semen Gresik. The roads are getting worse because of the standing water from the rain, and some of it even seeps into residents' homes, disrupting their daily lives. Once the drainage is done, we plan to work on concrete roads next year to boost the local economy. Thanks to PT Semen Gresik and SIG for caring about rural economic development," Salamun shared.
Vita Mahreyni, Corporate Secretary of SIG, mentioned that the support for road and infrastructure development in Rembang and Blora is a clear demonstration of the company's commitment to assist the government in accelerating rural economic growth. Adequate village infrastructure is expected to enhance the well-being and economic activities of the community by improving access for people and goods. "As a state-owned enterprise, SIG aims to provide economic benefits to the community through sustainable programs. This assistance reflects SIG's dedication to improving community welfare through safe, comfortable, and quality village infrastructure. This aligns with SIG's sustainability strategy outlined in the Sustainability Road Map 2030, focusing on Creating Value for Employees and Communities," Vita Mahreyni stated.
