The clean water crisis caused by climate change continues to be a challenge for many countries around the world, including Indonesia, making it tough for people to access clean water. To celebrate the 79th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, Hankook Tire, a leading global tire company, has set up a water pump installation for the community in Pasirranji Village, Cikarang Pusat District, Bekasi Regency, as part of its CSR program. This project, which has an investment value of around Rp120 million, was inaugurated by Hankook Tire Indonesia's President Director, Chang Doo Young, alongside Cikarang Pusat Sub-district Head, Edward Sutarman, at the well site on Wednesday, August 28.
Chang Doo Young shared, "We are committed to improving the quality of life for the people in Bekasi Regency, particularly in ensuring access to clean water, which is a basic human need. That's why Hankook has built a water pump installation that can produce 3,000 liters of clean water daily to serve about 231 families. With easier access to clean water, we hope to see an improvement in public health, children can study without water-related issues, and local economic activities can thrive."
In 2023, the clean water crisis still affects residents in 47 villages across 11 sub-districts out of 23 in Bekasi Regency. This crisis has left around 178,176 people, or about 53,246 families, struggling, and 24,491 hectares of agricultural land facing drought. Hankook Tire's initiative is a tangible response to help tackle this issue, especially in Pasirranji Village. The CSR program titled "Water Pump Installation Support 2024" reflects Hankook Tire's commitment to the local community. In addition to building infrastructure, PT Hankook Tire Indonesia also involves employees in collaborative efforts with residents and technicians to foster a sense of ownership over the facilities created.
The "Water Pump Installation Support 2024" CSR program is a testament to Hankook Tire's commitment to the local community. Beyond just building infrastructure, PT Hankook Tire Indonesia actively involves its employees in collaborative efforts with residents and technicians, fostering a sense of ownership over the facilities created. Since its establishment in 2013, PT Hankook Tire Indonesia has consistently provided hundreds of clean water tanks to various villages near the factory, including Pasirranji Village. This year, Hankook Tire is taking an innovative step by installing water pumps to make access to clean water easier and more convenient, helping residents meet their daily needs more effectively. Edward Sutarman, the head of Cikarang Pusat, expressed his gratitude for Hankook Tire's ongoing CSR efforts. "We are very thankful to Hankook Tire for the water pump installation in our village. Before this, residents of Pasirranji had to travel 11 km to buy clean water in Pasirtanjung. Now, with the water pump, they can access clean water much more efficiently." Moving forward, the management of the water pump installation will be entrusted to the youth organization of RT 004/005 in Pasirranji, which will oversee maintenance and distribution to the community. This CSR initiative is part of Hankook Tire's commitment to positively impact local welfare and build a better future. Hankook Tire will continue to partner with local governments and communities to ensure the sustainability of this program, aligning with the company's dedication to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in sustainable business operations and community well-being.
