Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has urged the Russian government to invest in 25 Special Economic Zones (SEZs) located in Indonesia. Airlangga emphasized that these zones present strategic investment opportunities for Indonesia's partner nations. "The development of SEZs is aimed at accelerating equitable development, enhancing regional competitiveness, and creating new jobs through high-value economic activities. Indonesia encourages Russia to invest in these SEZs," stated Airlangga following a bilateral meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Denis Manturov in Jakarta, as reported in an official statement on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

Regarding the SEZs, Airlangga detailed that there are 13 Industrial SEZs, 8 Tourism SEZs, 3 Digital SEZs, and 1 Aero Technic SEZ, which are distributed from Aceh to Papua. He noted that the Russian Federation is a strategic partner for Indonesia. During the meeting, both parties discussed various developments in bilateral cooperation and strategic initiatives across multiple sectors. Potential areas of collaboration included agriculture, livestock, halal certification, and renewable energy.

Additionally, Minister Airlangga conveyed Indonesia's commitment to expedite the conclusion of the Indonesia–Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (I-EAEU FTA). Indonesia is optimistic about finalizing the negotiations this year, as directed by President Prabowo Subianto. "Indonesia seeks Russia's support in encouraging the other four EAEU member countries to promptly complete their internal processes," he added.
