Netflix is currently testing a new search feature utilizing OpenAI's advanced technology. This update allows users to search for films not only by genre or actor names but also tailored to their mood.
Netflix spokesperson MoMo Zhou stated that the trial is still in its early stages. "We are truly in a learning and listening phase to develop this beta version," Zhou remarked, as reported by The Verge on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
The new service is being trialed through an opt-in process, meaning it is initially available to a select group of volunteer iOS users in Australia and New Zealand. According to Zhou, the testing will expand to the United States in the coming weeks or months.
Currently, Netflix has no plans to test the beta version on operating systems other than iOS. While Netflix has confirmed this initiative, OpenAI's management has yet to respond to the news.
Netflix's Chief Executive Officer, Greg Peters, mentioned that the company has been studying search systems and artificial intelligence for the past 20 years. In an interview with The Verge, he emphasized that management consistently seeks innovative technical solutions. "We aim to use it to serve creators, enabling them to tell stories in more engaging ways," he stated.
Netflix is widely recognized as a subscription-based streaming service, offering a diverse array of films and content suitable for various audiences, from children to adults.
