Microsoft Introduces A Number Of New Advanced Features For Copilot

Tuesday, 08 Apr 2025

Microsoft has introduced a number of new advanced features to its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbot, Copilot, including the ability to perform various tasks automatically on almost any website, from booking tickets, restaurant reservations, and more.

In addition, Copilot also has new capabilities such as a memory feature that allows Copilot to remember its users' personal preferences, similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT, including favorite foods and movies, as reported by Tech Crunch on Saturday.

Not only that, Copilot can now analyze videos in real time through the user's cellphone camera and provide answers based on what it "sees."

This update comes amid news that Microsoft is considering a major overhaul for Copilot, which has so far relied on OpenAI's AI models by gradually replacing them with its own in-house technology.

Starting this Friday, Copilot will be able to perform various online tasks automatically, similar to the capabilities of AI agent technology such as OpenAI's Operator.

Microsoft says it has partnered with platforms like 1-800-Flowers.com, Booking.com, Expedia, Kayak, OpenTable, Priceline, Tripadvisor, Skyscanner, Viator, and Vrbo. Users can simply type a command like “send my significant other a bouquet of flowers,” and Copilot will try to complete it on its own.

Copilot can also now track online deals. For example, users can ask it to search for discounts or price cuts on a product, and Copilot will send a notification when it finds a good deal, complete with a purchase link.

However, how well Copilot can accomplish these tasks is unclear. Microsoft hasn’t detailed how the feature works, and unlike some of its competitors, the virtual assistant hasn’t provided performance data or limitations on features that require human intervention.

It’s worth noting that websites can still block Copilot, just as they can block OpenAI’s Operator, especially if they’re concerned about a drop in direct traffic that could potentially impact their ad revenue.

Beyond these features, Copilot has also seen other, more obvious and less controversial improvements.

Copilot can now create artificial podcasts, similar to Google NotebookLM’s Audio Overviews feature. By providing a link to a website or research, or other source, Copilot will generate a conversation between two virtual hosts on a topic the user asks for.

The user can chime in and ask questions at any time, and the virtual hosts will respond contextually.
