Telkomsel Has Expressed Its Interest In Participating In The Auction For The 700 MHz And 2.6 GHz Frequency Bands

Thursday, 03 Apr 2025

The mobile operator Telkomsel, which is part of the state-owned enterprise Telkom, has expressed its interest in participating in the frequency auction being organized by the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi).

Among the three frequency bands to be auctioned—700 MHz, 1.4 GHz, and 2.6 GHz—Telkomsel has indicated a preference for two of them.

"If the government opens the selection process, we will certainly participate in the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz bands," stated Saki H. Bramono, Vice President of Corporate Communications & CSR at Telkomsel, during an event in Jakarta on Thursday.

Saki also addressed inquiries regarding Telkomsel's interest in other potential frequencies, specifically the 900 GHz band, which will be returned by another mobile operator due to a merger that has formed a new entity called XLSmart. He noted that to confirm their interest in this frequency, should the government decide to auction it, further internal assessments are necessary to evaluate the company's needs for enhancing telecommunications services for the public.

"Regarding the 900 GHz spectrum, we will conduct an internal assessment first to determine our spectrum requirements and other considerations," he explained.

Previously, on Friday, March 21, Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid announced that the ministry is preparing to auction three frequency bands—1.4 GHz, 2.6 GHz, and 700 MHz—in the second semester of 2025, following a spectrum reorganization process.

During a meeting in Central Jakarta on Friday evening, Meutya mentioned that the auction of these frequency bands is intended to facilitate their prompt reallocation to telecommunications service providers, thereby accelerating the adoption of emerging technologies in Indonesia.

"We believe that releasing these frequencies will make it easier for the Indonesian public to adopt various new connectivity technologies," she remarked.
