The Ministry of Environment (KLH)/Environmental Control Agency (BPLH) together with the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) held a Waste Awareness Lifestyle Campaign at Islamic Boarding Schools. The activity to commemorate the 2025 National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN) was held simultaneously at a number of Islamic boarding schools, Saturday, March 8, 2025.
The event, which was centered at the Al Muhajirin III Islamic Boarding School, Jalan Raya Purwakarta-Bandung KM 06, Kampung Citapen RT 09 RW 03, Sukajaya Village, Sukatani District, Purwakarta Regency, was wrapped up with breaking the fast together and religious lectures regarding the importance of a clean lifestyle in Islam.
In addition, the inauguration of the Young Generation Environmental Cadres among Islamic Boarding School Students was also carried out and assistance was handed over by the Minister of Environment and the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, represented by the Director of Early Childhood Education and Islamic Boarding Schools, Dr. Basnang Said S.Ag, M.Ag. Present at the agenda were the ranks of the Purwakarta Forkopimda, the Purwakarta Regent represented by the Regional Secretary Norman Nugraha, the Purwakarta Ulama and the Head of the Al-Muhajirin Islamic Boarding School.
In his speech, the Minister of Environment (LH) and Head of the Environmental Control Agency (BPLH), Dr. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said, in addition to Purwakarta Regency, precisely at the Al Muhajirin Islamic Boarding School, the same activity was also carried out at the Nur El Falah Islamic Boarding School, Serang, the Eco Daarut Tauhid Islamic Boarding School, West Bandung, the Assalam Islamic Boarding School, Sukoharjo, the Al Munawwir Islamic Boarding School Krapyak, Bantul, the Nurul Hidayah Islamic Boarding School, Probolinggo, the Al Hidayah Islamic Center Islamic Boarding School, Kampar and at the Darunnajah Islamic Boarding School, East Lampung.
Minister Hanif revealed that the Ministry of Environment noted that national waste amounted to around 56.6 million tons. Meanwhile, waste management carried out in accordance with environmental regulations only reached 39 percent, so that around 61 percent of the 56.6 million tons of waste were not managed properly.
"Some were dumped at the final waste processing site, others were dumped in other places along the road, river, maybe in some of the Islamic boarding schools and also along the coastlines. Of course, this has caused extraordinary environmental damage," said Hanif.
