Indonesia and Vietnam are further strengthening their strategic partnership, especially in the technology sector for the digital economy sector.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that with a large and increasingly technologically literate young population, Indonesia and Vietnam have great potential to become centers of the digital economy in the ASEAN region.
"Currently, cooperation between the two countries is still limited to trade and investment. With a large and increasingly technologically literate young population, Indonesia and Vietnam have the potential to become centers of the ASEAN digital economy," said Airlangga in a High Level Business Dialogue entitled "Vietnam and Indonesia: A Partnership for Progress and Prosperity" held in Jakarta, Monday.
This meeting is an important momentum for the two countries in exploring opportunities for cooperation in the technology sector, including the development of the digital economy and the semiconductor industry.
Seeing the great potential in the digital economy, Indonesia and Vietnam emphasized the importance of accelerating cooperation in the digital economy by signing a Letter of Intent (LoI) on Cooperation in Capacity Building in the Field of Engineering and the Digital Economy.
The LoI is aimed at developing the capacity of engineers and talent in the technology sector, promoting digital economy initiatives including information communication technology (ICT), semiconductors, and the electric vehicle industry, and exploring potential collaborations.
In addition, cooperation in the digital sector is also supported by the acceleration of the adoption of cross-border digital transactions. ASEAN is currently preparing the ASEAN Digital Economic Framework Agreement (DEFA), which will be signed at this year's ASEAN Summit.
This agreement is expected to accelerate the integration of the digital economy in the region and open up greater opportunities for digital businesses in Indonesia and Vietnam.
Airlangga also highlighted the role of technology companies in strengthening bilateral collaboration. One real example is the expansion of the Vietnamese technology company, FPT (Financing and Promoting Technology), which has expanded its business network in Indonesia.
This step reflects the increasingly close synergy in the technology and digital economy sectors between the two countries.
