The controversy over alleged fuel oil (BBM) adulteration has heated up after the Attorney General's Office (AGO) and PT Pertamina Patra Niaga argued with each other. In the midst of the ongoing legal process, the AGO confirmed the practice of blending Pertalite with Pertamax, while Pertamina firmly denied the accusation. Alleged Adulteration at the Depot This case emerged after the AGO named nine suspects in a corruption scandal at PT Pertamina Subholding and the Cooperation Contract Contractors (KKKS) for the 2018-2023 period. During the investigation, the AGO found indications of Pertalite being mixed with Pertamax RON 92 at the depot or fuel storage location. As a result of the suspects' actions, the state is estimated to have suffered losses of up to IDR 193.7 trillion in 2023. This issue has also sparked public concern regarding the quality of the fuel they use every day.
The public is urging transparency and concrete evidence regarding the truth of the alleged adulteration.
Pertamina Strongly Denies Responding to the circulating news, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga emphasized that there were no adulteration practices in the procurement or distribution of their fuel. Acting President Director of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Mars Ega Legowo Putra, ensured that the fuel sold at gas stations was in accordance with applicable specifications. "While still respecting the ongoing legal process, we want to clarify the information circulating in the community, especially regarding the quality of RON 90 and RON 92 fuel," said Ega in a meeting with Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the DPR Building, Wednesday (26/2/2025). Ega emphasized that the Pertalite (RON 90) and Pertamax (RON 92) received by Pertamina were in their final form and in accordance with standards, both from domestic refineries and imports. "We received it in the form of RON 90 and RON 92, not in other RON forms. So, for Pertalite we have received the product, both from refineries and from abroad, it is in the form of RON 90," he explained. AGO: Evidence of Blending However, Pertamina's statement was immediately denied by the AGO. The Director of Investigation at the AGO's Jampidsus, Abdul Qohar, emphasized that the investigators' findings showed that there was a blending practice between Pertalite and Pertamax. "Investigators found different facts. There is RON 90 (Pertalite) or even lower, namely RON 88, blended with 92 (Pertamax). So, there is a mixture between RON and RON," said Qohar in a press conference at the AGO, Wednesday (26/2/2025).
