Deputy Minister Of Communication And Digital Says Collaboration Is Key To Accelerating Indonesia's AI Adoption

Monday, 03 Mar 2025

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital (Wamenkomdigi) Nezar Patria said that cross-sector collaboration is the key to accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and its development in Indonesia.

According to him, this collaboration must be accompanied by the principle of technology transfer and knowledge transfer so that later the development of AI in Indonesia can be realized properly.

"This allows Indonesia and other developed countries to actively participate in the global AI supply chain, not only as users or markets," said Nezar in his statement received in Jakarta, Wednesday.

In the development of AI in Indonesia, Wamenkomdigi emphasized the importance of an inclusive AI ecosystem that can be achieved through collaboration between platforms.

In addition, from the People factor, collaboration must be focused on empowering public capacity development so that the ability or skills to master AI can be owned not only by certain parties but also by more digital talents.

So far, according to Nezar, Indonesia has taken quite a lot of steps to advance the development of the AI ??ecosystem. One step that is worth being proud of is that Indonesia is the first country in Southeast Asia to complete the UNESCO AI Readiness Assessment Report.

"Most countries need an average of seven months to complete this report, Indonesia managed to complete it in just four months. This achievement positions us as a regional leader with the opportunity to share best practices and insights with neighboring countries," said Nezar.

Even so, Nezar said further steps are still needed to ensure that Indonesia has a pace of AI ecosystem development that is in line with the national digital transformation roadmap.
