Indonesia Has Potential To Develop AI Technology Like DeepSeek

Monday, 24 Feb 2025

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of modern life. From virtual assistants like Siri and Google Assistant to natural language processing technologies like ChatGPT, AI has helped humans in various aspects, from work, education, entertainment, to healthcare. AI not only increases efficiency, but also opens up opportunities for innovation in various sectors.

In recent years, many countries have competed to develop their own AI technology, both through academic research and investment in AI startups.

Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, stated that Indonesia has great potential in developing artificial intelligence technology. In an effort to accelerate the development of AI in the country, Luhut has recruited a number of talented young generations who will present plans to develop this technology to President Prabowo Subianto in the near future.

This step shows the government's commitment to supporting digital innovation carried out by young Indonesians. In fact, the government has been involved in various projects aimed at building an AI-based technology ecosystem in the country. One example is a project at the Republic of Indonesia's Public Company for Printing Money (Peruri), which involves 300 young talents to contribute to digital innovation.

DeepSeek is one of the AI ??startups from China that has attracted the attention of the global industry with various competitive AI models. In fact, DeepSeek once competed with ChatGPT in the list of popular applications on the United States App Store. DeepSeek's success shows that competition in the AI ??industry is getting tighter, with the emergence of alternatives from various countries that are able to compete with the dominance of large AI companies such as OpenAI and Google DeepMind.

This phenomenon has had a major impact on the technology stock market. DeepSeek's success in gaining the attention of users and investors has led to a decline in the stock prices of several large technology companies, including Nvidia, Meta, and Alphabet (Google's parent company).
