Want To Become A Developed Country, Indonesia Needs 23 Million People Who Are Literate In Information Technology

Monday, 24 Feb 2025

Based on Dicoding's research to achieve the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045, the country needs 23 million quality IT talents. If we want to be on par with developed countries, the IT sector's contribution to GDP 2045 needs to increase by 10 percent (from 4 percent in 2024).

"To realize this, we need to provide wider and more massive access to education, ensure adequate and scalable IT education capacity, and organize quality IT training programs," said Dicoding Chief Executive Officer Narenda Wicaksono in a press statement in Jakarta, Thursday (20/2/2025).

Interestingly, almost half of IT talents currently realize that their success does not only depend on formal education, but on informal training and practical experience. Therefore, the participation and collaboration between the government, industry, universities, schools, and IT talent development institutions, such as Dicoding, are the keys to producing these 23 million quality IT talents," he said.

Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar said that everyone has an important role in realizing Indonesia Emas 2045.

"To advance, we must be relevant in the eyes of the world, so that they see Indonesia not as a market, but also as a producer. Digital transformation will continue to grow, like it or not, therefore, we have a responsibility to prepare the next generation," said Irene.

"Collaboration is needed in fostering Indonesian talent. Let's collaborate, and I hope that after this event, concrete cooperation will be born that we can carry out together. My commitment today is to invite all of us, together to build Indonesian talent and move towards Indonesia Emas," she said.

Through the same research, Dicoding also provides policy recommendations for the government, including the need to expand the policy foundation that fosters the development of informatics talent, such as the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program.

In addition, schools and universities also need to provide academic recognition for student involvement in reputable informatics talent development programs organized by the industry. In addition, educational institutions also need to be proactive in realizing cooperation with industry.
