Amidst the busyness and pressures of modern life, the concept of slow living is gaining traction. This lifestyle that emphasizes mindfulness in living life is starting to be adopted by many people, especially among young workers and students.
They seek a balance between work and time for themselves by reducing unnecessary busyness and enjoying every moment more meaningfully.
Slow living encourages people to appreciate the simple things in everyday life, such as enjoying a cup of coffee without rushing, using social media less, and spending more time in nature.
This concept is also related to the trend of minimalism, where people choose to live with less stuff and more experiences.
“I used to feel exhausted and overthinking. Now I prefer to go through the day more relaxed, focus on the things that really matter, and avoid unnecessary distractions,” said Dinda, a Palangka Raya resident who has started to implement slow living.
Not only Dinda, many other people also feel the benefits of this lifestyle. Arif, an office worker, admitted that practicing slow living helped him reduce work-related stress.
“I started setting clear work time limits and spending more time with my family. It feels calmer and more productive,” he said, Monday (2/17/2025).
Meanwhile, Lala, a student, said that slow living made her more focused on studying. “I started to reduce the use of social media and enjoy the learning process more. Apparently, my academic results have also improved,” she said.
This phenomenon is also driven by the increasing awareness of mental health. Many psychologists recommend slow living as a way to reduce stress and improve quality of life.
“This lifestyle can help people manage pressure better. By slowing down the rhythm of life, they can be more aware of their own emotions and needs,” says Dr. Rina, a clinical psychologist in Palangka Raya.
Communities have sprung up to share experiences and support each other in adopting this lifestyle.
With the rapid development of technology and the increasing pressure of life, slow living has become an alternative for those who want to live a calmer and happier life.
It is predicted that this trend will continue to grow and more people will be interested in implementing it in the coming years.
