Tito Appoints Two Police Generals As Secretary General And Inspector General Of The Ministry Of Home Affairs

Saturday, 15 Feb 2025

The Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, has appointed two high-ranking police officers to key positions within the Ministry of Home Affairs. Commissioner General Tomsi Tohir has been designated as the Secretary General, while Inspector General Sang Made Mahendra Jaya has been appointed as the Inspector General of the Ministry. These appointments were made in accordance with Presidential Decree Number 32/TPA of 2025. The inauguration ceremony took place in the Main Meeting Room of the Ministry's headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. Prior to this, Sang Made served as a Special Advisor to the Minister on Legal Affairs and National Unity.

Tito expressed confidence in Tomsi's capabilities, citing his year-long experience as the Acting Secretary General as a significant factor in his appointment to the definitive role. "I am aware that Mr. Tomsi has been in this position for nearly a year, and I feel confident because he has managed it quite effectively," he stated during a press conference on the same day.

Tito emphasized the central role of the Secretary General and similar positions within an organization, noting that such officials are trusted by the leadership of the ministry or agency. This role is particularly vital, given the Ministry's responsibilities in overseeing and guiding regional governance. The Secretary General also acts as a coordinator for regional secretaries across all local governments. The policies issued by the Ministry will serve as guidelines for local governments, thus the performance of the Ministry is significantly influenced by the quality of the Secretary General. "This also impacts the development conditions of communities throughout Indonesia," he elaborated. Similarly, he urged Inspector General Sang Made to continue strengthening communication with inspectors across various regions, a foundation that Tomsi had established.
