The XI Commission Of The House Of Representatives Has Requested A Postponement Of Coretax, Presenting Evidence And A Final Decision On The Matter

Thursday, 13 Feb 2025

A proposal to postpone the implementation of the Coretax system, which serves as the core administration system for taxation, has been put forth by Commission XI of the House of Representatives (DPR). This decision arises from ongoing disruptions that have persisted since the system's launch on January 1, 2025. On Monday, February 10, 2025, Commission XI convened a closed-door hearing with the Director General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance, Suryo Utomo, and his team to discuss the Coretax system. The meeting lasted for over four hours. Following the session, in an interview with the media, the Chairman of Commission XI, Mukhamad Misbakhun, revealed that the initial proposal from the commission members was to delay the implementation of Coretax due to the continuous issues encountered. "At that time, we indeed requested a postponement, as there was a consensus among members from nearly all factions. However, the question remains: what would a delay of Coretax entail? The conclusion of the meeting must be mutually agreed upon by the government and Commission XI," stated Misbakhun on February 10, 2025.

Ultimately, the hearing concluded with a recommendation for the government to delay the full implementation of Coretax. This means that the Directorate General of Taxes will continue to operate the old taxation system alongside the still-troubled Coretax. According to Misbakhun, it is the responsibility of the Directorate General of Taxes to determine how the implementation of Coretax can proceed, which led to the decision made during the meeting.

Misbakhun acknowledged that there was considerable debate during the meeting, given that the proposal to postpone Coretax originated from nearly all factions. He emphasized that Commission XI is committed to ensuring that taxpayer services are not disrupted due to Coretax or any related taxation policies. The policies are designed for the benefit of taxpayers, and it is imperative that current conditions prioritize their interests. "The primary concern is to ensure that state revenue is not adversely affected. That is of utmost importance," Misbakhun remarked. Commission XI also believes that if Coretax cannot be fully operational, there should be an option to reactivate the previous system.
