The Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, articulated the Indonesian government's commitment to establishing an inclusive framework for the governance of artificial intelligence (AI).
"Indonesia believes that AI governance should be founded on principles of fairness, inclusivity, and security," she stated during the Ministerial Meeting of GPAI Members and Interested Countries at the AI Action Summit held in Paris, France, on Sunday, February 9.
"We aim to ensure that global AI policies not only reflect the interests of developed nations but also take into account the realities faced by developing countries like Indonesia," Meutya remarked, as cited in a press release from the ministry in Jakarta on Monday.
The Indonesian government emphasizes the significance of an inclusive approach to global AI governance, aligning with the main theme of the meeting, which is GPAI's Role in Building Inclusive Global Governance of AI. Indonesia advocates for enhanced international coordination in AI development that prioritizes public interest and social welfare.
"AI is a transformative force in the global economy, but we must ensure that no country is left behind in this digital revolution. Indonesia will continue to actively participate in global AI policy discussions to guarantee that AI is safe, ethical, and inclusive for all," Meutya asserted.
She expressed that Indonesia promotes AI policies grounded in the principles of fairness, inclusivity, and security, as well as the use of AI as a tool to support sustainable development.
"Indonesia's presence in this forum is not merely to secure a seat at the global discussion table but also to ensure that global AI policies reflect the interests of developing nations. AI must be governed by principles that place humanity at the center of innovation," she concluded.
The AI Action Summit was attended by notable figures, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, and French Digital Minister Clara Chappaz.
