The Minister Of Home Affairs Reveals That Prabowo Has Selected February 20 For The Inauguration Of Regional Heads

Wednesday, 05 Feb 2025

President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has selected February 20, 2025, as the date for the phased inauguration of regional heads resulting from the simultaneous 2024 elections. This information was conveyed by the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, during a working meeting with Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives on Monday, February 3, 2025. "We prepared the dates of 18, 19, and 20, and then I reported to the President, who indicated his preference for the 20th, which falls on a Thursday," Tito stated on the same day. He further mentioned that the inauguration of regional heads will take place in the national capital, although the exact location is still under discussion.

Tito emphasized that the national capital referred to is Jakarta, not the new capital, Nusantara, located in East Kalimantan. "I want to clarify this, as I have seen various reports suggesting that the national capital is considered to be Nusantara. According to the law, the relocation of the capital must be established through a Presidential Regulation. Until such a regulation is operational, the capital remains Jakarta," Tito asserted. Previously, the government, through the Ministry of Home Affairs, had canceled the planned phased inauguration of regional heads that was initially scheduled to commence on February 6, 2025. In response, the Ministry of Home Affairs, along with the election organizers, including the General Election Commission (KPU), the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), and the Honorary Council of Election Organizers (DKPP), will hold a working meeting with Commission II of the House of Representatives on Monday, February 3, 2025. This postponement of the regional head inauguration follows the Constitutional Court's decision to expedite the reading of the dismissal ruling in the dispute over the results of the 2024 elections.
