The Ministry Of Communication And Information Technology Has Indicated That The Potential Of Artificial Intelligence Could Facilitate An Economic Growth Of 8 Percent

The Director General of the Digital Ecosystem at the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi), Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, has highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to achieve an economic growth target of 8 percent, as envisioned by President Prabowo Subianto, provided that the technology is governed effectively.
Edwin emphasized that contemporary technologies such as AI should not only be regarded as tools for enhancing productivity but also as instruments for mitigating economic challenges.
"AI requires appropriate governance, supported innovation, and widespread promotion of its utilization to contribute maximally to economic development," Edwin stated during the Alibaba Cloud Developer Summit 2025 in Jakarta on Tuesday.
In his directives, President Prabowo Subianto has underscored the significance of digital transformation in attaining national prosperity. This principle serves as the foundation for the Ministry of Communication and Digital in executing various strategic initiatives.
To establish a suitable governance framework for the AI ecosystem that supports national prosperity, Edwin mentioned that Kemkomdigi is making concerted efforts to provide technical support.
This includes expanding the reach of digital infrastructure development, which encompasses the enhancement of extensive telecommunications networks, the establishment of reliable data centers, and the provision of high-performance cloud computing services.
"This infrastructure is the backbone of the digital transformation that we advocate to support the growth of various sectors," Edwin remarked.
Another crucial step for Indonesia to harness AI for its targeted economic potential is the development and acceleration of digital talent cultivation.
One of Kemkomdigi's flagship programs aimed at nurturing digital talent as a source of superior human resources (HR) is the Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS).
