A number of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) from major technology companies have reportedly contributed millions of dollars to the administration of Donald Trump. A portion of these donations has been directed to the Presidential Inaugural Committee, officially known as the Trump-Pence Inaugural Committee, Inc. The largest contribution has come from Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter). Musk, recognized as the world's richest individual by Forbes, is reported to have spent $260 million (approximately IDR 4.2 trillion, based on an exchange rate of $1 = IDR 16,334) in support of Trump, as summarized by CNN. These funds began to be allocated during Trump's campaign, prior to the upcoming presidential election in November 2024.
This support is not surprising, given that Musk is a prominent member of Trump's campaign team. Out of the $260 million, $238 million (around IDR 3.8 trillion) has been utilized to establish the America Political Action Committee (PAC), an organization founded by Musk along with several American business leaders to promote Trump's campaign. In addition to Musk, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, which oversees ChatGPT, as well as Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, and Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, have also made contributions to Trump, each donating $1 million (IDR 16 billion).
However, it has been reported that Altman contributed from his personal wealth. He stated that this donation reflects his support for Trump's vision of advancing the United States into the era of artificial intelligence (AI). "President Trump will lead our country into the AI era, and I want to support his efforts to ensure America remains at the forefront," Altman remarked in a statement. In contrast to Altman, Zuckerberg and Bezos made their donations through their respective companies. Amazon's streaming service, Prime, also broadcast the inauguration ceremony of the 47th President of the United States.
