Monday, 20 Jan 2025

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia has announced that President Prabowo Subianto will undertake a state visit to India as the Chief Guest, following an invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, from January 24 to 26.

According to a written statement from the Ministry in Jakarta on Thursday, this visit aims to enhance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established between the two nations in 2018.

"This visit will mark President Prabowo Subianto's first state visit to India and will also commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and India," the statement noted.

During the visit, President Prabowo is scheduled to receive a welcoming ceremony from Indian President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 25.

He will also hold a bilateral meeting with Modi at Hyderabad House, where both leaders will witness the exchange of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering various sectors, including health, culture, education, security, maritime safety, and traditional medicine.

Additionally, President Prabowo is expected to visit Raj Ghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

On the final day of the visit, he will attend the 76th Republic Day celebrations of India as the Chief Guest.

The Ministry stated that President Prabowo is the fourth Indonesian president to be invited as Chief Guest, coinciding with a historic performance by a marching band consisting of 352 Indonesian military personnel participating in the Republic Day parade.

This visit underscores the strengthening and expansion of strategic cooperation between Indonesia and India, particularly in the fields of economy, defense, and maritime affairs, since both countries agreed to become Comprehensive Strategic Partners in 2018.
