EF Kids & Teens, a multinational company and English language school network, proudly announces the success of the Spelling Bee Competition, a regional spelling contest held from October to December 2024 across 36 cities in Indonesia. This event attracted over 16,400 participants nationwide, showcasing the enthusiasm of young people in improving their English skills.
Since its inception in 2003, the Spelling Bee organized by EF Kids & Teens has become a prestigious competition in Indonesia, now in its 17th year. A total of 101 EF Kids & Teens centers hosted the Spelling Bee, with participants being active students from elementary and middle schools (grades 1 to 9). There are four categories in the competition, and three winners from each category will compete at the national level.
“This competition has received great appreciation from the community, including parents, teachers, and local media. It highlights the importance of English education as a foundation for Indonesia's youth to face global challenges in the future.
We are committed to supporting the academic development and confidence of Indonesian children, making the Spelling Bee not just a test of their spelling skills but also a way to build their courage to perform in public and compete at higher levels,” said Christopher Lloyd, a representative of EF Kids & Teens, in an official statement in Jakarta.
Christopher explained that this regional competition has produced 900 top finalists who will compete in the 17th National Spelling Bee Competition, set to take place at the Basketball Hall, Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday, January 19. The finalists will vie for the national champion title and a total prize pool of millions of rupiah.
The tagline for this national competition is "Bee The One," which carries a deep meaning: it encourages participants to strive to be their best, just like a hardworking and skilled bee. The word "Bee" also plays on "Be," symbolizing the spirit of becoming the best version of oneself.
"The 17th National Spelling Bee competition will mark the peak of this journey, showcasing talented finalists from across Indonesia. We hope this competition inspires the younger generation to continue developing themselves and reaching their full potential, in line with EF Kids & Teens' vision to empower Indonesian children through quality education that prepares them for the global era," said Christopher.
"We invite parents, teachers, and everyone to join and support the talented students of EF Kids & Teens. Follow this competition's journey, celebrate their achievements, and be part of the movement that supports future leaders through education," Christopher concluded.
