PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), in collaboration with Plastic Pay, has successfully collected 1.72 tons of plastic waste during the 2023-2024 period. This waste collection was facilitated through the Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) program.
Shelvy Arifin, the Corporate Secretary of ASDP, emphasized that the management of plastic waste is not solely the responsibility of the government but requires the involvement of all societal elements, including the business sector.
"As a state-owned enterprise operating in the transportation sector, ASDP is committed to leading the way in plastic waste management. The RVM program represents a tangible step we are taking to create a sustainable positive impact on the environment," Shelvy stated in a written announcement on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
By the end of 2024, ASDP has collected 1.72 tons of plastic waste, equivalent to 92,334 plastic bottles, with participation from 571 community members. This initiative has preserved 1,458 square meters of environmental space and reduced carbon emissions by up to 9,000 kilograms. The RVMs are strategically placed in locations such as ASDP's headquarters, the Ministry of Transportation, and the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, with plans for expansion to ports and other operational areas.
In addition to the RVM technology, ASDP promotes an environmentally friendly lifestyle among its employees. The company advocates for simple yet impactful habits, such as using personal water bottles, utilizing reusable shopping bags, and sorting waste both at work and at home.
"We believe that change begins with the individual, and our employees are the agents of change who will make a significant impact on the environment," Shelvy remarked.
ASDP's plastic waste management initiative is strongly aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This initiative supports SDG Number 12, which focuses on responsible production and consumption.
