Microsoft Is Prepared To Invest IDR 1.2 Trillion In An AI Data Center By 2025

Friday, 10 Jan 2025

Microsoft has announced a significant plan to allocate an investment of $80 billion (approximately IDR 1.240 trillion) towards the development of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers throughout the first half of fiscal year 2025, which concludes on June 30, 2025.

In a blog post, Microsoft’s Vice Chair and President, Brad Smith, described this opportunity as a pivotal moment akin to the era of electrification. He emphasized that AI possesses immense potential to enhance productivity and innovation across various sectors.

More than half of this investment will be directed towards the United States, concentrating on AI model training, cloud-based application development, and supporting diverse sectors including chip suppliers, application companies, and material manufacturers.

Microsoft also reiterated its commitment to enhancing the skills of American citizens through AI training initiatives. The company aims to train 2.5 million students, workers, and local communities by 2025.

This skills enhancement program is integrated with the establishment of new data centers, which are often accompanied by training for the surrounding communities.

In addition to its domestic focus, Microsoft is preparing strategies to maintain the United States' position at the forefront of AI technology.

As reported by Techradar.com on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Brad Smith highlighted the pressure from China's efforts to become a leader in AI, underscoring the need for close collaboration with allied nations.

In 2024, Microsoft committed to investing over $35 billion (approximately IDR 542.5 trillion) across 14 countries to build AI and cloud infrastructure.

This underscores the strategic role of the company in preserving the dominance of the United States in AI technology.

"The key to the future is to unite the best of what we can offer across American society, from our entire private sector, educational institutions, non-profits, and government," stated Smith.

According to him, Microsoft is prepared to play a crucial role in this endeavor.
