PT Garuda Indonesia and PT Pelita Air, both state-owned enterprises, aim to expand their fleet by adding 26 aircraft by the year 2025 to enhance their domestic and international flight services.
Wamildan Tsani Panjaitan, the President Director of Garuda Indonesia, announced that the company plans to acquire 20 new aircraft in 2025.
"I would like to inform you that for Garuda Indonesia, our target this year (2025) is to add up to 20 aircraft," stated Wamildan following a meeting with the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, in Jakarta on Thursday, January 2.
The addition of 20 aircraft is planned to be executed in stages, starting in January with the arrival of two Boeing aircraft.
"In January, we will receive two more Boeing planes, and in February, we will operate an additional Boeing 737. Our hope is to reach a total of 20 aircraft by 2025," he explained.
However, Wamildan acknowledged the challenges faced in acquiring both new and used aircraft due to difficulties in finding available planes to meet current market demands.
Despite these challenges, he remains committed to maximizing the utilization of the aircraft acquired throughout 2025, while carefully considering the types and capacities of the fleet to be used.
Garuda Indonesia also emphasizes the necessity of increasing aircraft capacity to service all existing routes, as part of its efforts to enhance operational efficiency.
The expansion of Garuda Indonesia's fleet is a top priority for management to address capacity shortages, thereby improving service quality and the airline's competitiveness in the global aviation market.
"Our routes are numerous, but we lack the aircraft. This is why increasing our aircraft capacity is my primary focus at this time, along with our team. We hope to cover all existing routes," Wamildan concluded.
