The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) is implementing a digital transformation based on synergy and collaboration to support the achievement of Indonesia's Golden Vision 2045.
In her first two months in office, Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid has concentrated on executing strategic steps for digital transformation, which include efforts to create meaningful connectivity, an empowering digital ecosystem, and a secure and sovereign digital space.
"Inclusive connectivity is the key to digital equity. All members of society, without exception, must benefit from technology to enhance their welfare," stated Meutya, as quoted in a press release from the ministry in Jakarta on Tuesday.
As a foundation for digital transformation, she explained that the government is accelerating the development of digital infrastructure in the regions classified as 3T: frontier, remote, and outer areas.
In this regard, the government is constructing over 120 base transceiver station (BTS) towers in Papua, aiming to reach one thousand remote villages by 2025 with communication services.
In October 2024, the Minister of Communication and Digital visited the Eunoni Village in East Nusa Tenggara to assess the community's access to telecommunication services.
Following the eruption of Mount Lewotobi in November 2024, Kemkomdigi acted swiftly to address connectivity issues in the affected areas.
The ministry also mobilized cellular operators to provide free internet access quotas to support education and telecommunication services for disaster-affected residents.
Additionally, the ongoing digital transformation requires an innovative and empowering ecosystem.
To realize such an ecosystem, the flagship Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS) program has been launched to train over 100,000 digital talents in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data analysis by 2024.
