The Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, encourages Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) technology to accelerate their business growth.
"Digitalization boosts MSMEs, while AI revolutionizes them. It is crucial to explore how we can utilize AI to transform MSMEs. The primary goal of AI is efficiency. Therefore, we need to consider how AI can assist us in determining the necessary steps to take," stated Meutya in South Jakarta on Saturday, December 21.
She emphasized that AI can be beneficial for MSME operators in various aspects, such as business preparation, logo creation, and business profiling. "Although it may not be the best solution, I believe it will be extremely helpful for those MSME operators who are just starting out," she remarked.
Meutya asserted that the adoption of AI in MSMEs is inevitable. Consequently, if business operators do not adapt to this technology promptly, they risk falling behind.
She noted that MSMEs utilizing AI can operate more efficiently, resulting in the production of goods at significantly lower costs. "If businesses abroad are already harnessing AI while those in Indonesia are not, they will become much more efficient, allowing them to sell their products at much lower prices," she explained.
According to Meutya, the adoption of technology for MSMEs extends beyond AI to include other technologies that can advance their businesses. She pointed out that currently, only about 40 percent of MSMEs in Indonesia are digitally literate, and she hopes to increase this figure to 50-60 percent by next year.
Furthermore, President Prabowo Subianto envisions achieving an economic growth rate of 8 percent. Meutya believes that one of the pathways to reach this target is through digital transformation, particularly within the MSME sector.
