Vaseline Healing Project 2024 Offers Free Skin Treatment Services

Tuesday, 17 Dec 2024

Vaseline, as a body care expert, is reaffirming its commitment to providing healthy skin access for everyone through the "Vaseline Healing Project 2024." This year's focus is on protecting people's skin from the risks of sun exposure. In collaboration with the Indonesian Dermatology and Venereology Association (PERDOSKI) Jakarta branch and Halodoc, the program culminated in free skin consultation and treatment services for over 500 individuals at the Gelanggang Remaja in North Jakarta.

Meila Putri Handayani, Marketing Skin Care Lead at Unilever Indonesia, stated, "Living in a tropical climate, excessive sun exposure can cause skin issues for Indonesians, especially due to UV radiation. In response to this, we are hosting the 'Vaseline Healing Project 2024' to highlight the importance of protecting skin from sun exposure risks. We have been running this annual program since 2015, demonstrating Vaseline's global mission to provide Healthy Skin for All, aligning with our brand purpose of ensuring healthy skin for everyone to live without limits."

According to BMKG data, the average UV index in Indonesia ranges from 8 to 10, which is in the red zone, indicating a high risk to skin health. Common issues include dry skin, sunburn, hyperpigmentation, premature aging, and in severe cases, skin cancer, with 90% of cases linked to sun exposure.

"These risks lead many people to 'hide' from the sun. A survey by Vaseline of 1,000 women revealed that 1 in 2 women choose to limit outdoor activities due to concerns about skin damage," Meila explained.

Concerns about skin health are often linked to poor habits, such as neglecting to use sunscreen. In fact, less than 3% of Indonesian consumers buy sunscreen for their bodies. Many believe that all sunscreen textures feel sticky and greasy, or think that wearing covered clothing is enough to protect against sun exposure.

Dr. M. Akbar Wedyadhana, Sp.KK, FINSDV – Chairman of PERDOSKI Jakarta, added, “Another common mistake is self-medication, which can worsen skin conditions. Everyone's skin reacts differently to sunlight, so it's crucial to consult medical professionals. Unfortunately, access to dermatologists is very limited. Currently, there are only about 2,500 dermatologists in Indonesia, resulting in a ratio of 1 dermatologist for every 100,000 people, far from the ideal ratio of 1 for every 2,000.”

This situation has led to the launch of the "Vaseline Healing Project 2024," which aims to educate and improve skin health access for as many people as possible. The program has already benefited over 20 million individuals through:

• Collaboration with the Indonesian Association of Dermatologists and Venereologists (PERDOSKI) Jakarta: Providing online education about the importance of protecting skin from sun exposure to over 20 million people, along with free skin treatment services for more than 1,000 individuals since 2023.

• Collaboration with Halodoc in 2024: Halodoc and Vaseline will offer online consultations with dermatologists that are easily accessible. By purchasing Vaseline suncare products through the Halodoc app or other stores, 10,000 consumers will receive free online consultation vouchers while also donating to improve skin health for those in need.
