As a member of the Red and White Cabinet, Trade Minister Budi Santoso actively promoted and sold batik products from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through live shopping. This event was part of the launch for National Online Shopping Day (Harbolnas) 2024, held on Friday, December 6, at The Park, Pejaten, Jakarta. For 2024, the projected value of electronic transactions is expected to reach IDR 487 trillion, a significant increase from the previous year's IDR 453 trillion.
The launch of Harbolnas 2024 was led by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto. Alongside Minister Budi Santoso, Minister of MSMEs Maman Abdurrahman was also present. Harbolnas 2024 will take place from December 10 to 16, 2024.
"The price of the batik shirts I offered was around IDR 300,000. I believe a shirt of such good quality would sell for IDR 800,000. It turns out the products are great and affordable. We should be proud, support, and buy Indonesian-made goods. Let's back local products to boost our economy," said Minister Budi Santoso after the live shopping event.
This live shopping initiative is a clear demonstration of the Trade Ministry's support for MSME products and Harbolnas. Minister Budi Santoso has dedicated specific sales for MSME and local products during this year's Harbolnas, scheduled for December 10-11 and December 13-16, 2024. This year, there are 407 participants in Harbolnas, including merchants, online retailers, and marketplace service providers.
Minister Budi Santoso noted that the transaction value of local products during Harbolnas reflects the competitiveness of MSMEs on electronic commerce platforms. The transaction value for Harbolnas 2024 could increase by 13-16 percent compared to the previous total. Additionally, Minister Budi hopes to see the contribution of local product transactions exceed 50 percent of the total transaction value throughout Harbolnas 2024.
The government hopes for a multiplier effect from the 2024 Harbolnas event, which aims to boost not only domestic product sales but also enhance the transportation and logistics sectors, especially in goods delivery, along with other sectors, said Minister of Trade Budi Santoso.
Transaction Projection of IDR 487 Trillion
In 2023, local product transactions during Harbolnas reached IDR 12.3 trillion, accounting for 48.1 percent of the total transaction value. The overall transaction value of Harbolnas has been increasing year by year, with the total for 2023 at IDR 25.7 trillion, a 182 percent rise from its first event in 2019.
Currently, Indonesia's digital economy growth in trade is reflected in the significant rise of e-commerce, as more people embrace online shopping.
According to Bank Indonesia, the value of Indonesia's e-commerce transactions in 2023 was IDR 453 trillion, and it is projected to grow to IDR 487 trillion in 2024, stated Minister Budi Santoso.
The number of e-commerce platform users in Indonesia is also on the rise. By 2024, it is expected to reach 65.65 million users, an 11.9 percent increase from 58.63 million in 2023. Additionally, the percentage of MSMEs engaging in online sales has increased nationally, with 37.79 percent of all MSMEs reported to be selling online, according to data from the Central Statistics Agency.
Minister Budi Santoso emphasized that MSMEs should fully utilize e-commerce platforms to expand their market reach, including opportunities for export markets.
