Indonesia's Data Infrastructure Attracts Global Investment Interest

Thursday, 21 Nov 2024

The Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, revealed that within her first three weeks in office, she has engaged with numerous technology companies, discovering a significant interest among these global industry players in investing in Indonesia's data infrastructure.

"We have discussions with many global high-tech companies, including Nvidia, which has already been reported to the Minister of State Secretary. In fact, there are many interested parties looking to collaborate with the Indonesian government in the realm of data," stated Meutya during a press conference regarding the visit of the Minister of State Secretary.

Meutya emphasized that the growing interest from global technology firms in investing in Indonesia's data infrastructure could facilitate the acceleration of digital transformation. This aligns with the priority programs of the Ministry of Communication and Digital under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, focusing on the provision of secure and sovereign data infrastructure in Indonesia.

The Ministry has also coordinated with the Minister of State Secretary concerning the establishment of a regulatory body for Personal Data Protection. "This is a carryover from the previous administration, so we will discuss it further after the President returns. However, it is most appropriate for the Minister of State Secretary to address the follow-up on the Personal Data Protection Law," Meutya added.

It is noted that as of October 17, 2024, the implementation of Law No. 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection has been fully enacted. "Certainly, on October 17, it will mark two years since its ratification, thus it will be in effect," stated Hokky Situngkir, the Director General of Informatics Applications.
